ACCESS

Marie Sester is a French-American artist working primarily with digital technologies to create works in a variety of media and formats, most often presenting responsive media.

Born in France, Sester studied to be an architect, earning a Masters Degree (Architect DPLG, M Arch) from the Ecole d'Architecture in Strasbourg, France. After traveling through Europe and Africa, she settled in Paris and established an art practice creating mainly drawings and paintings. After receiving a residency in Japan in 1993, her work shifted toward an exploration of public space, creating installations and experimental interactive works.
In 2000 she moved to the U.S., living first in San Francisco, then Los Angeles. She currently lives in New York City.

1) What attracted you to this piece of interactive art in the first place? (4%)
Its the way how people react along with the interactive art. It is just amazing that Marie is enable to create such interactive art like Access that would fully interacting with the human reaction and expression. The reaction of the targeted people which is the significant things which attracted me the most.

2) How did you feel when you first saw this interactive art? (4%)
Eye-catching and breathtaking. It is not that boring as the other artwork seeing human staying at the same position with small movement. This one is  different, it makes me feel exciting while watching it, i enjoy a lot with the interactive art that is tricking people around and playing with it. And i feel amazed whit this simple idea that could able to bring entertainment to the public, cheering people around with no reason. This could able to bring surprises and joyfulness to our life.

3) What element/s made this interactive art successful in engaging you? (4%)
It creates the spot light beam effect n target the people around. the situation is like you are the chosen one and surrounded by spot light. At the moment, the curiosity thought appear in the person mind thinking what is wrong with the light pointing at them. After a moment, Some of the individuals will start to reaction by performing like dancing, singing, hip hoping etc. But most of them will play around with it, trying to get rid of the spot light beam. Therefore, the element that engaged me the most is interrelation between the way of the interactive art interact with human and the way human interact back to it. 

4) What was the ‘wow’ factor for you? (4%)
The idea of how the interactive art indirectly communicate/ interact with the people around. I found this interactive art different compare to the others, which the other interactive art will be active or works only when the people start interact with it. But this Access, it is the interactive art that interact to the people by placing the spot light beam to take the people attention at the first place and then only the targeted people interact and give certain various responds back to it.

5) If there is one thing that you want to add to this interactive artwork, what would it be? (4%)
It will be the spot light beam effects. Maybe there should be various types of shapes, colours, or maybe few more spot light beams shooting at one time. It will be more interesting when there are more people playing with it.
